Surrounding and protecting every Local Spots map is a framing system that we have spent over two years developing, designed entirely in-house and now proudly patent-pending in the EU. We wanted to create a frame that wasn’t just functional, but an integral part of the story.

Sustainable materials: We use formaldehyde-free, FSC-certified birch plywood from Finland, the highest quality and most sustainable birch we could find.

Glue-free, nail-free assembly: Drawing inspiration from Japanese Magewappa craft, Shaker joinery, and Irish vernacular furniture (specifically the Sligo chair!), the frame is designed to slot together seamlessly using clever joinery techniques. This makes the entire piece biodegradable and compostable at end-of-life.

Signature design details: The multi-layered map surface is precision-cut to capture the depth and contours of each landscape. Our distinctive Atlantic blue stain pays tribute to our coastal roots, while our new natural nude frame finish offers a minimalist, understated look.
