Sustainability
Designed for a lifetime: crafted with care
At Outcrop, sustainability is not a trend — it’s at the heart of our design ethos. Every product we make is thoughtfully created to last, using responsibly sourced materials, eco-conscious processes, and innovative designs that reduce waste and maximise longevity. For us, sustainability means crafting products that are meant to be cherished — not replaced. Because each map holds deep personal meaning — marking the landscapes, memories, and places people love — it becomes a treasured piece that owners want to keep, display, and pass on for years to come, carrying a legacy of care, craftsmanship, and responsibility.
Materials we use

Bamboo
Not only is bamboo a strong and beautiful wood to work with but it is a champion when it comes to the environment. Our custom-made bamboo is FSC certified, unbleached and made with formaldehyde free, Super-E0 glues.

Glues and Stains
We only use non-toxic, water-based glues and stains in our maps. Our deep black paint and iconic blue stain also carry the
Enviromark Accreditation.

Frames
All of our frames are made using plantation grown FSC timber. Our medium and large frames are glued and nailed for durability, and painted using a cellulose based paint. Our new award-winning round frames are 100% made in house using only the finest FSC birch from Finland.

Presentation boxes
Our maps are wrapped in acid free tissue, and come in unbleached, recycled cardboard presentation boxes. All our box labels are made from recycled paper.

Shipping
All of our packaging is 100% plastic free. We use recycled paper labels for our shipping labels, and paper packing tape. Our innovative shipping wraps eliminate the need for bubble wrap.
Large commissions are shipped in a custom made wooden crate, which we pay to have collected from you so it can be reused again.
