Layered Wooden Maps
We create handcrafted wooden maps of meaningful places — from favourite coastlines and islands to landscapes rich with memory.

Handcrafted in Sligo, inspired by the places you love
Outcrop is an award-winning, sustainability-led Irish design studio based on the Wild Atlantic coast in Sligo. From our small workshop, co-founders Maeve and Aran Pudney design and make handcrafted 3D wooden maps that connect people to the places they love most — favourite beaches, islands, coastlines, lakes and landscapes that hold personal meaning.
Each piece is created with care, using natural materials, thoughtful design and precise making to bring meaning, beauty and eco-conscious Irish artistry into your home.
Crafted from sustainable materials
We use FSC-certified wood, non-toxic finishes and plastic-free packaging in all our products.
Meet the makers
Outcrop is led by co-founders Maeve and Aran Pudney from their workshop in Sligo. It is very much a partnership, combining Maeve’s engineering, business and landscape knowledge with Aran’s background in product design, making and materials.
As a family business, Outcrop is built around thoughtful design, careful craft and a love of the natural world that inspires much of their work. Together, Maeve and Aran create layered wooden maps that feel personal, precise and made to last, pieces that help people celebrate the places that matter most.

Maeve Pudney
Maeve is the co-founder and CEO of Outcrop, guiding the direction of the business and leading many of the key decisions that shape how it grows. With over 20 years’ experience as a professional structural engineer, she brings precision, structure and problem-solving to the heart of the brand, transforming satellite and GPS data into the accurate layered contours used in Outcrop’s map artworks. Her love of the sea, the outdoors and Ireland’s rugged Atlantic coastline gives the work a deep connection to place, while her creative instinct, eye for colour and commitment to natural materials help shape the distinctive character of Outcrop.

Aran Pudney
Aran is the co-founder and design lead at Outcrop, bringing more than 20 years’ experience in industrial design, product development and working with wood. His background in designing beautifully considered, functional products shapes the way each map is made — from the choice of materials to the fine details of cutting, sanding, finishing and framing. With a long-standing love of timber, sustainable design and precise making, Aran helps turn each landscape into a refined, tactile artwork made to be cherished for years.

Our Story: from New Zealand to the West Coast of Ireland
Outcrop is the creative partnership of co-founders Maeve and Aran Pudney, a husband-and-wife team bringing together engineering, design, making and a shared love of coastal landscapes.
Both grew up close to the sea — Maeve in Sligo, on Ireland’s Atlantic coast, and Aran in New Zealand. Their mapping journey began in Wellington, where they lived for several years before returning to Sligo, Maeve’s hometown, in 2020 to establish Outcrop. The move rooted the business in the landscape that continues to shape much of their work: coastlines, islands, mountains, lakes and places rich with personal meaning.
Outcrop is built around family life and a hands-on way of making. Every map is designed, made and finished in-house, allowing Maeve and Aran to stay close to the details — from the first digital contour lines to the final sanding, staining, framing and packing. Their approach is careful and considered, using sustainable materials to honour the landscapes that inspire each piece.
As Aran says, “Our aim has always been to make really good products that will bring their owners joy and be cherished for a long time.”
How It’s Made
Every Outcrop map begins with real landscape data, carefully interpreted and refined before it becomes a physical artwork. From digital contours and design decisions to cutting, sanding, staining, assembly and framing, each stage is handled in-house with precision and care.

Sustainable materials, chosen with care
Sustainability is built into how we design, make and ship our maps. We use FSC-certified wood, formaldehyde-free glues, non-toxic water-based finishes, recycled presentation boxes and plastic-free packaging wherever possible.
