A meaningful handmade gift for anyone with a connection to Ireland's surf capital on the wild Donegal coast.
Discover the energy and beauty of Bundoran with this beautifully handcrafted round wooden map. Sitting at the southern tip of Donegal Bay where the county meets Leitrim and Sligo, Bundoran is one of Ireland's most iconic and beloved seaside towns. Its world class surf breaks — the Peak, Tullan Strand and the Prowl among them — have made it a magnet for surfers from across Ireland and Europe for decades, and its reputation as the surf capital of Ireland is well and truly earned. Beyond the waves, Bundoran has a promenade, a lively town centre, sea pools carved into the rocky shoreline and the kind of unpretentious, good-humoured seaside energy that has made it a favourite for generations of Irish families on their summer holidays. The surrounding coastline, with its dramatic rock formations, sea caves and views across Donegal Bay, adds a layer of wild natural beauty to a town that knows exactly what it is and loves it.
This handcrafted 3D wooden map captures Bundoran's coastline, surf breaks, town and surrounding Donegal Bay landscape in layered detail — made by hand in our Sligo studio from sustainable materials.
Perfect for:
- Surfers and surf enthusiasts who know Bundoran's world class breaks and its legendary place in Irish and European surf culture
- Families with fond memories of summer holidays, the promenade, the amusements and the seaside energy of Bundoran
- Coastal walkers and nature lovers exploring the rock pools, sea caves and dramatic shoreline of the Donegal coast
- Anyone with a connection to Bundoran, whether you grew up there, surf its breaks each season, or simply love this iconic corner of Donegal
Make it personal:
Add a brass pin to mark a favourite spot — a favourite break, the promenade, a sea pool, a family home or a special place along the Donegal coast — with a short engraved message on the back.
Our Local Spots maps are round, framed wooden 3D maps, designed to capture meaningful Irish places in a simple, tactile format.
Each map measures approximately 220mm across and 42mm deep. It is ready to hang and also comes with a small clip-together stand, so it can be displayed on a wall, shelf, desk or sideboard.
Each map is framed without glass, allowing the depth, texture and natural wood grain to remain visible. Available with a natural or black frame.
Depths and elevations are shown in metres where included in the design.
You can add a short engraved message to the back of your map and a brass pin to mark a special place on the front for an additional charge.
To add this option, select “Map with engraving + brass pin” before adding the map to your cart, then enter your message and the Eircode or location details in the box provided.
If the place does not have an Eircode, you can describe the location instead.
Each Local Spots map is designed and made by Outcrop in our County Sligo studio.
We use geographic data to create the layered map design, then laser cut, stain, hand-sand, finish, frame and check each piece in our workshop before it is packed for delivery.
Made in small batches, each map carries the natural warmth of wood and the care of something made by hand.
Each Local Spots map is made from FSC-certified bamboo plywood, chosen for its strength, fine grain and natural warmth.
Our round frames are made from FSC-certified birch, sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests. We use water-based, non-toxic glues and stains to finish each piece by hand.
Your map is wrapped in protective tissue and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box. Our packaging is plastic-free, and each piece is designed to be kept, gifted and enjoyed for years.
Your map comes ready to hang, and also includes a small clip-together wooden stand for displaying it on a shelf, desk or sideboard.
To use the stand, pop out the two pieces, slot them together and rest your map securely on top.
For best results, display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight,
as this may gradually affect the blue colour or natural bamboo tone over time.
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
Each Local Spots map is made to order in our Sligo studio, rather than held in large quantities of stock. This helps us make carefully, reduce waste and manage our small workshop space.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for dispatch during our normal production flow.
Your map will be carefully wrapped and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box, ready to give as a gift. We do not include pricing inside the parcel, so it can be sent directly to the recipient.
If your order is a gift, you can leave us a note at checkout with any packing or delivery details.
If you need your map sooner, please contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what is possible.
