Carrauntoohil · Corrán Tuathail · Co. Kerry, Ireland
A meaningful handmade gift for anyone who has stood on the summit of Ireland’s highest mountain.
Discover the drama and majesty of Carrauntoohil with this beautifully handcrafted round wooden map. Rising to 1,038 metres above the Kerry landscape, Carrauntoohil is the highest point in Ireland and one of the most rewarding and challenging mountain climbs on the island. The map captures the mountain’s extraordinary topography with breathtaking precision — the summit marked at the heart of the map, concentric contour rings rising from 500 to 900 metres in layer upon layer of bamboo, and the four glacial corrie lakes — Lough Eagher, Lough Gouragh, Lough Callee and Curraghmore Lake — rendered in vivid turquoise in the hollows carved by the last ice age. The walking routes to the summit — including the Devil’s Ladder, the Caher Ridge and the Beenkeragh horseshoe — are traced as dashed lines across the mountain’s flanks, making this a map that will be read and reread by anyone who has made the climb or is planning to.
This handcrafted 3D wooden map captures Carrauntoohil at 1,038m, Lough Eagher, Lough Gouragh, Lough Callee and Curraghmore Lake in layered detail — made by hand in our Sligo studio from sustainable materials.
Perfect for:
- Hillwalkers and mountaineers who have stood on Carrauntoohil’s summit and experienced the extraordinary views across Kerry and beyond
- Climbers tackling the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks ridge — the Beenkeragh horseshoe and Caher Ridge among Ireland’s finest mountain days
- Trail runners and adventure athletes for whom Carrauntoohil is a benchmark and a goal
- Anyone with a connection to Carrauntoohil, whether you’ve climbed it once, climb it every year, or simply love Ireland’s highest and most iconic mountain
Make it personal: Add a brass pin to mark a special connection — the summit, a favourite route, a corrie lake, a turning point or a personal milestone on the mountain — with a short engraved message on the back.
Our Local Spots maps are round, framed wooden 3D maps, designed to capture meaningful Irish places in a simple, tactile format.
Each map measures approximately 220mm across and 42mm deep. It is ready to hang and also comes with a small clip-together stand, so it can be displayed on a wall, shelf, desk or sideboard.
Each map is framed without glass, allowing the depth, texture and natural wood grain to remain visible. Available with a natural or black frame.
Depths and elevations are shown in metres where included in the design.
You can add a short engraved message to the back of your map and a brass pin to mark a special place on the front for an additional charge.
To add this option, select “Map with engraving + brass pin” before adding the map to your cart, then enter your message and the Eircode or location details in the box provided.
If the place does not have an Eircode, you can describe the location instead.
Each Local Spots map is designed and made by Outcrop in our County Sligo studio.
We use geographic data to create the layered map design, then laser cut, stain, hand-sand, finish, frame and check each piece in our workshop before it is packed for delivery.
Made in small batches, each map carries the natural warmth of wood and the care of something made by hand.
Each Local Spots map is made from FSC-certified bamboo plywood, chosen for its strength, fine grain and natural warmth.
Our round frames are made from FSC-certified birch, sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests. We use water-based, non-toxic glues and stains to finish each piece by hand.
Your map is wrapped in protective tissue and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box. Our packaging is plastic-free, and each piece is designed to be kept, gifted and enjoyed for years.
Your map comes ready to hang, and also includes a small clip-together wooden stand for displaying it on a shelf, desk or sideboard.
To use the stand, pop out the two pieces, slot them together and rest your map securely on top.
For best results, display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight,
as this may gradually affect the blue colour or natural bamboo tone over time.
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
Each Local Spots map is made to order in our Sligo studio, rather than held in large quantities of stock. This helps us make carefully, reduce waste and manage our small workshop space.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for dispatch during our normal production flow.
Your map will be carefully wrapped and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box, ready to give as a gift. We do not include pricing inside the parcel, so it can be sent directly to the recipient.
If your order is a gift, you can leave us a note at checkout with any packing or delivery details.
If you need your map sooner, please contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what is possible.
