Clew Bay · Cuan Mó · Co. Mayo, Ireland
A meaningful handmade gift for anyone with a connection to this legendary bay on the wild Mayo coast.
Discover the breathtaking beauty of Clew Bay with this beautifully handcrafted round wooden map. One of the most iconic bays in Ireland, Clew Bay stretches from the Georgian harbour town of Westport out to the open Atlantic, its legendary 365 islands — one for every day of the year — scattered across its sheltered waters like a drowned drumlin landscape left by the last ice age. Croagh Patrick, Ireland's holy mountain, rises dramatically to the south, its quartzite cone visible from almost every point on the bay and drawing pilgrims, walkers and admirers throughout the year. From the Great Western Greenway tracing the old railway line along the bay's southern shore to the islands, the sailing waters and the extraordinary views from every headland, Clew Bay is one of the great natural spectacles of the west of Ireland.
This handcrafted 3D wooden map captures Clew Bay's islands, coastline, Westport and surrounding Mayo landscape in layered detail — made by hand in our Sligo studio from sustainable materials.
Perfect for:
- Walkers and cyclists exploring the Great Western Greenway along the shores of Clew Bay
- Sailors, kayakers and island hoppers exploring the legendary 365 islands of the bay
- Pilgrims and hill walkers making the annual climb of Croagh Patrick above the bay
- Anyone with a connection to Clew Bay, whether you grew up on its shores, holiday in Westport each year, or simply love this spectacular corner of Mayo
Make it personal:
Add a brass pin to mark a favourite spot — an island, a harbour, a favourite view of Croagh Patrick, a family home or a special place along the bay — with a short engraved message on the back.
Our Local Spots maps are round, framed wooden 3D maps, designed to capture meaningful Irish places in a simple, tactile format.
Each map measures approximately 220mm across and 42mm deep. It is ready to hang and also comes with a small clip-together stand, so it can be displayed on a wall, shelf, desk or sideboard.
Each map is framed without glass, allowing the depth, texture and natural wood grain to remain visible. Available with a natural or black frame.
Depths and elevations are shown in metres where included in the design.
You can add a short engraved message to the back of your map and a brass pin to mark a special place on the front for an additional charge.
To add this option, select “Map with engraving + brass pin” before adding the map to your cart, then enter your message and the Eircode or location details in the box provided.
If the place does not have an Eircode, you can describe the location instead.
Each Local Spots map is designed and made by Outcrop in our County Sligo studio.
We use geographic data to create the layered map design, then laser cut, stain, hand-sand, finish, frame and check each piece in our workshop before it is packed for delivery.
Made in small batches, each map carries the natural warmth of wood and the care of something made by hand.
Each Local Spots map is made from FSC-certified bamboo plywood, chosen for its strength, fine grain and natural warmth.
Our round frames are made from FSC-certified birch, sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests. We use water-based, non-toxic glues and stains to finish each piece by hand.
Your map is wrapped in protective tissue and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box. Our packaging is plastic-free, and each piece is designed to be kept, gifted and enjoyed for years.
Your map comes ready to hang, and also includes a small clip-together wooden stand for displaying it on a shelf, desk or sideboard.
To use the stand, pop out the two pieces, slot them together and rest your map securely on top.
For best results, display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight,
as this may gradually affect the blue colour or natural bamboo tone over time.
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
Each Local Spots map is made to order in our Sligo studio, rather than held in large quantities of stock. This helps us make carefully, reduce waste and manage our small workshop space.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for dispatch during our normal production flow.
Your map will be carefully wrapped and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box, ready to give as a gift. We do not include pricing inside the parcel, so it can be sent directly to the recipient.
If your order is a gift, you can leave us a note at checkout with any packing or delivery details.
If you need your map sooner, please contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what is possible.
