A meaningful handmade gift for anyone with a connection to this proud and historic town on the Shannon Estuary.
Discover the character and beauty of Kilrush with this beautifully handcrafted round wooden map. Sitting on the southern shore of County Clare where it meets the Shannon Estuary, Kilrush is one of the most attractive and historically rich market towns in the west of Ireland. The map captures the town's remarkable waterside setting in layered detail — the Kilrush Channel threading between the town's marina and Hog Island, Cappa Village sitting at the water's edge and the wider estuary opening out beyond toward the Kerry coast. Kilrush Marina is one of the finest on the Shannon, and the surrounding waters of the estuary are home to one of Europe's only resident populations of bottlenose dolphins — a remarkable natural spectacle that draws wildlife lovers from across Ireland and beyond. The town's wide market square, its strong community spirit and its position as the gateway to Loop Head Peninsula and the wild southwest Clare coast give it a character and importance well beyond its size.
This handcrafted 3D wooden map captures Kilrush town, Cappa Village, Kilrush Channel, Hog Island and the surrounding Shannon Estuary in layered detail — made by hand in our Sligo studio from sustainable materials.
Perfect for:
- Sailors and boaters who know Kilrush Marina and the waters of the Shannon Estuary intimately
- Wildlife lovers and dolphin watchers drawn to the resident bottlenose dolphin population of the Shannon Estuary
- Walkers and coastal explorers discovering the Loop Head Peninsula and the wild southwest Clare coastline on Kilrush's doorstep
- Anyone with a connection to Kilrush, whether you grew up there, sail its waters, or simply love this proud corner of west Clare
Make it personal:
Add a brass pin to mark a favourite spot — the marina, Cappa Village, Hog Island, a family home or a special place along the Shannon Estuary — with a short engraved message on the back.
Our Local Spots maps are round, framed wooden 3D maps, designed to capture meaningful Irish places in a simple, tactile format.
Each map measures approximately 220mm across and 42mm deep. It is ready to hang and also comes with a small clip-together stand, so it can be displayed on a wall, shelf, desk or sideboard.
Each map is framed without glass, allowing the depth, texture and natural wood grain to remain visible. Available with a natural or black frame.
Depths and elevations are shown in metres where included in the design.
You can add a short engraved message to the back of your map and a brass pin to mark a special place on the front for an additional charge.
To add this option, select “Map with engraving + brass pin” before adding the map to your cart, then enter your message and the Eircode or location details in the box provided.
If the place does not have an Eircode, you can describe the location instead.
Each Local Spots map is designed and made by Outcrop in our County Sligo studio.
We use geographic data to create the layered map design, then laser cut, stain, hand-sand, finish, frame and check each piece in our workshop before it is packed for delivery.
Made in small batches, each map carries the natural warmth of wood and the care of something made by hand.
Each Local Spots map is made from FSC-certified bamboo plywood, chosen for its strength, fine grain and natural warmth.
Our round frames are made from FSC-certified birch, sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests. We use water-based, non-toxic glues and stains to finish each piece by hand.
Your map is wrapped in protective tissue and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box. Our packaging is plastic-free, and each piece is designed to be kept, gifted and enjoyed for years.
Your map comes ready to hang, and also includes a small clip-together wooden stand for displaying it on a shelf, desk or sideboard.
To use the stand, pop out the two pieces, slot them together and rest your map securely on top.
For best results, display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight,
as this may gradually affect the blue colour or natural bamboo tone over time.
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
Each Local Spots map is made to order in our Sligo studio, rather than held in large quantities of stock. This helps us make carefully, reduce waste and manage our small workshop space.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for dispatch during our normal production flow.
Your map will be carefully wrapped and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box, ready to give as a gift. We do not include pricing inside the parcel, so it can be sent directly to the recipient.
If your order is a gift, you can leave us a note at checkout with any packing or delivery details.
If you need your map sooner, please contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what is possible.
