A meaningful handmade gift for anyone with a connection to Ireland's most celebrated gourmet harbour town.
Celebrate the coastal charm of Kinsale with this beautifully handcrafted round wooden map. Nestled at the mouth of the Bandon River where it opens into a sheltered harbour on the southwest Cork coast, Kinsale is one of Ireland's most beloved and visited towns. Its colourful buildings, winding medieval streets, world-class restaurants and twin 17th century forts — Charles Fort and James Fort guarding the harbour entrance — give it a character that is entirely its own. The Battle of Kinsale in 1601 was one of the most pivotal moments in Irish history, marking the end of the old Gaelic order, and the town's streets still carry that weight of history alongside the cheerful bustle of its harbour, marina and market days.
This handcrafted 3D wooden map captures Kinsale's iconic harbour, headlands, surrounding coastline and Cork landscape in layered detail — made by hand in our Sligo studio from sustainable materials.
Perfect for:
- Food lovers and gourmet enthusiasts who know Kinsale as the culinary capital of Ireland
- Sailors and boaters who love Kinsale's sheltered harbour, marina and the spectacular sailing waters of Cork Harbour
- History lovers drawn to Charles Fort, the Battle of Kinsale and the town's extraordinary place in Irish history
- Anyone with a connection to Kinsale, whether you live there, visit each summer, or simply love this vibrant corner of Cork
Make it personal:
Add a brass pin to mark a favourite spot — the harbour, Charles Fort, a favourite restaurant, a family home or a special place in the town — with a short engraved message on the back.
Our Local Spots maps are round, framed wooden 3D maps, designed to capture meaningful Irish places in a simple, tactile format.
Each map measures approximately 220mm across and 42mm deep. It is ready to hang and also comes with a small clip-together stand, so it can be displayed on a wall, shelf, desk or sideboard.
Each map is framed without glass, allowing the depth, texture and natural wood grain to remain visible. Available with a natural or black frame.
Depths and elevations are shown in metres where included in the design.
You can add a short engraved message to the back of your map and a brass pin to mark a special place on the front for an additional charge.
To add this option, select “Map with engraving + brass pin” before adding the map to your cart, then enter your message and the Eircode or location details in the box provided.
If the place does not have an Eircode, you can describe the location instead.
Each Local Spots map is designed and made by Outcrop in our County Sligo studio.
We use geographic data to create the layered map design, then laser cut, stain, hand-sand, finish, frame and check each piece in our workshop before it is packed for delivery.
Made in small batches, each map carries the natural warmth of wood and the care of something made by hand.
Each Local Spots map is made from FSC-certified bamboo plywood, chosen for its strength, fine grain and natural warmth.
Our round frames are made from FSC-certified birch, sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests. We use water-based, non-toxic glues and stains to finish each piece by hand.
Your map is wrapped in protective tissue and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box. Our packaging is plastic-free, and each piece is designed to be kept, gifted and enjoyed for years.
Your map comes ready to hang, and also includes a small clip-together wooden stand for displaying it on a shelf, desk or sideboard.
To use the stand, pop out the two pieces, slot them together and rest your map securely on top.
For best results, display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight,
as this may gradually affect the blue colour or natural bamboo tone over time.
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
Each Local Spots map is made to order in our Sligo studio, rather than held in large quantities of stock. This helps us make carefully, reduce waste and manage our small workshop space.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for dispatch during our normal production flow.
Your map will be carefully wrapped and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box, ready to give as a gift. We do not include pricing inside the parcel, so it can be sent directly to the recipient.
If your order is a gift, you can leave us a note at checkout with any packing or delivery details.
If you need your map sooner, please contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what is possible.
