Roches Point & Crosshaven · Rinn an Róistigh · Co. Cork, Ireland
A meaningful handmade gift for anyone with a connection to this magnificent stretch of water at the entrance to Cork Harbour.
Discover the drama and beauty of Roches Point and Crosshaven with this beautifully handcrafted round wooden map. This is one of the most storied and sailed stretches of water in Ireland — the deep channel at the entrance to Cork Harbour, where the tides run fast and the history runs deep. The map captures it all in extraordinary detail — Crosshaven on the western shore, home to the Royal Cork Yacht Club, the world's oldest yacht club, and the starting point of countless offshore races and regattas; Roches Point on the eastern headland, its lighthouse standing guard at the harbour entrance since 1817; Spike Island sitting in the channel with its star-shaped fort, once the world's largest prison and now one of Ireland's most compelling heritage attractions; and Corkbeg Island and Ringport completing a panorama of water, headland and history that is unique on the Irish coast.
This handcrafted 3D wooden map captures Roches Point, Crosshaven, Spike Island, Corkbeg Island, Ringport and the Cork Harbour entrance channel in layered detail — made by hand in our Sligo studio from sustainable materials.
Perfect for:
- Sailors and racing enthusiasts who know Crosshaven, the Royal Cork Yacht Club and the waters of Cork Harbour intimately
- History lovers drawn to Spike Island's extraordinary story as a fort, a prison and one of Ireland's most dramatic heritage sites
- Lighthouse lovers and maritime enthusiasts fascinated by Roches Point and the long history of this great harbour entrance
- Anyone with a connection to Crosshaven or Roches Point, whether you sail these waters, grew up nearby, or simply love this magnificent corner of Cork Harbour
Make it personal: Add a brass pin to mark a favourite spot — Crosshaven marina, Roches Point lighthouse, Spike Island, a favourite anchorage or a special place along the harbour entrance — with a short engraved message on the back.
Our Local Spots maps are round, framed wooden 3D maps, designed to capture meaningful Irish places in a simple, tactile format.
Each map measures approximately 220mm across and 42mm deep. It is ready to hang and also comes with a small clip-together stand, so it can be displayed on a wall, shelf, desk or sideboard.
Each map is framed without glass, allowing the depth, texture and natural wood grain to remain visible. Available with a natural or black frame.
Depths and elevations are shown in metres where included in the design.
You can add a short engraved message to the back of your map and a brass pin to mark a special place on the front for an additional charge.
To add this option, select “Map with engraving + brass pin” before adding the map to your cart, then enter your message and the Eircode or location details in the box provided.
If the place does not have an Eircode, you can describe the location instead.
Each Local Spots map is designed and made by Outcrop in our County Sligo studio.
We use geographic data to create the layered map design, then laser cut, stain, hand-sand, finish, frame and check each piece in our workshop before it is packed for delivery.
Made in small batches, each map carries the natural warmth of wood and the care of something made by hand.
Each Local Spots map is made from FSC-certified bamboo plywood, chosen for its strength, fine grain and natural warmth.
Our round frames are made from FSC-certified birch, sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests. We use water-based, non-toxic glues and stains to finish each piece by hand.
Your map is wrapped in protective tissue and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box. Our packaging is plastic-free, and each piece is designed to be kept, gifted and enjoyed for years.
Your map comes ready to hang, and also includes a small clip-together wooden stand for displaying it on a shelf, desk or sideboard.
To use the stand, pop out the two pieces, slot them together and rest your map securely on top.
For best results, display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight,
as this may gradually affect the blue colour or natural bamboo tone over time.
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
Each Local Spots map is made to order in our Sligo studio, rather than held in large quantities of stock. This helps us make carefully, reduce waste and manage our small workshop space.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for dispatch during our normal production flow.
Your map will be carefully wrapped and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box, ready to give as a gift. We do not include pricing inside the parcel, so it can be sent directly to the recipient.
If your order is a gift, you can leave us a note at checkout with any packing or delivery details.
If you need your map sooner, please contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what is possible.
