The Wicklow Way · Wicklow Mountains · Ireland
A meaningful handmade gift for anyone who has walked Ireland’s oldest and most beautiful long distance trail.
Discover the drama and beauty of the Wicklow Way and the Wicklow Mountains with this beautifully handcrafted round wooden map. Ireland’s first and most celebrated long distance walking route, the Wicklow Way runs 127 kilometres from Marlay Park in the Dublin suburbs through the heart of the Wicklow Mountains to Clonegal in County Carlow - and this map traces every step of that journey in extraordinary layered detail. The Wicklow Mountains themselves are rendered with breathtaking precision - ridge after ridge of granite and heather rising and falling across the map, the deep glacial valleys, reservoirs and blanket bog of the highest mountain range in Leinster brought to life in layer upon layer of bamboo. The Wicklow coastline glimmers to the east, Dublin sits at the map’s northern edge, and Gorey and Clonegal mark the trail’s southern conclusion - a map that captures not just a walk but an entire landscape and the very particular satisfaction of covering it on foot.
This handcrafted 3D wooden map captures the full route of the Wicklow Way, the Wicklow Mountains, Marlay Park, Dublin, the Wicklow coast, Carlow, Clonegal and Gorey in layered detail - made by hand in our Sligo studio from sustainable materials.
Perfect for:
- Walkers and hikers who have completed the Wicklow Way and want a lasting reminder of one of Ireland’s great long distance routes
- Trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts who know the Wicklow Mountains as the finest mountain terrain within reach of Dublin
- Nature lovers and wild campers drawn to the blanket bog, granite ridges and glacial valleys of the Garden of Ireland
- Anyone with a connection to the Wicklow Mountains, whether you walk them every weekend, completed the Way, or simply love this extraordinary landscape on Dublin’s doorstep
Make it personal: Add a brass pin to mark a favourite spot — a summit, a campsite, a memorable day on the trail, a section of the Way, Marlay Park or Clonegal at journey’s end — with a short engraved message on the back.
Our Local Spots maps are round, framed wooden 3D maps, designed to capture meaningful Irish places in a simple, tactile format.
Each map measures approximately 220mm across and 42mm deep. It is ready to hang and also comes with a small clip-together stand, so it can be displayed on a wall, shelf, desk or sideboard.
Each map is framed without glass, allowing the depth, texture and natural wood grain to remain visible. Available with a natural or black frame.
Depths and elevations are shown in metres where included in the design.
You can add a short engraved message to the back of your map and a brass pin to mark a special place on the front for an additional charge.
To add this option, select “Map with engraving + brass pin” before adding the map to your cart, then enter your message and the Eircode or location details in the box provided.
If the place does not have an Eircode, you can describe the location instead.
Each Local Spots map is designed and made by Outcrop in our County Sligo studio.
We use geographic data to create the layered map design, then laser cut, stain, hand-sand, finish, frame and check each piece in our workshop before it is packed for delivery.
Made in small batches, each map carries the natural warmth of wood and the care of something made by hand.
Each Local Spots map is made from FSC-certified bamboo plywood, chosen for its strength, fine grain and natural warmth.
Our round frames are made from FSC-certified birch, sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests. We use water-based, non-toxic glues and stains to finish each piece by hand.
Your map is wrapped in protective tissue and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box. Our packaging is plastic-free, and each piece is designed to be kept, gifted and enjoyed for years.
Your map comes ready to hang, and also includes a small clip-together wooden stand for displaying it on a shelf, desk or sideboard.
To use the stand, pop out the two pieces, slot them together and rest your map securely on top.
For best results, display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight,
as this may gradually affect the blue colour or natural bamboo tone over time.
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
Each Local Spots map is made to order in our Sligo studio, rather than held in large quantities of stock. This helps us make carefully, reduce waste and manage our small workshop space.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for dispatch during our normal production flow.
Your map will be carefully wrapped and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box, ready to give as a gift. We do not include pricing inside the parcel, so it can be sent directly to the recipient.
If your order is a gift, you can leave us a note at checkout with any packing or delivery details.
If you need your map sooner, please contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what is possible.
