A meaningful handmade gift for anyone with a connection to Ireland's holy mountain rising above the shores of Clew Bay.
Discover the drama and spirituality of Croagh Patrick with this beautifully handcrafted round wooden map. Rising to 620 metres above the southern shore of Clew Bay, Croagh Patrick is Ireland's most sacred mountain — a place of pilgrimage, mythology and breathtaking natural beauty that has drawn people to its summit for over five thousand years. The map captures the mountain's extraordinary topography with remarkable precision — the Reek's quartzite cone rising in dramatic layered contours from the coastal plain, Clew Bay and the beautiful Bertra Strand curving along the northern shore, Lecanvey and Murrisk at the mountain's foot where pilgrims begin their barefoot ascent each Reek Sunday, and the islands of Clew Bay scattered across the water below. From the summit on a clear day the view across the bay's legendary 365 islands and out to Achill Island and the open Atlantic is one of the great panoramas in Ireland — a reward that has drawn pilgrims and walkers alike for generations.
This handcrafted 3D wooden map captures Croagh Patrick, Clew Bay, Bertra Strand, Lecanvey and Murrisk in layered detail — made by hand in our Sligo studio from sustainable materials.
Perfect for:
- Pilgrims and walkers who have made the climb to Croagh Patrick's summit and experienced its extraordinary spiritual and physical reward
- Outdoor enthusiasts and hillwalkers for whom the Reek is one of the great climbs in Ireland
- History and mythology lovers drawn to Croagh Patrick's ancient heritage and its central place in Irish Christian and pre-Christian tradition
- Anyone with a connection to Croagh Patrick, whether you climbed it barefoot on Reek Sunday, walked it on a summer morning, or simply love this iconic mountain and the Mayo landscape it defines
Make it personal: Add a brass pin to mark a favourite spot — the summit, Murrisk, Bertra Strand, a favourite view across Clew Bay or a special place at the foot of the mountain — with a short engraved message on the back.
Our Local Spots maps are round, framed wooden 3D maps, designed to capture meaningful Irish places in a simple, tactile format.
Each map measures approximately 220mm across and 42mm deep. It is ready to hang and also comes with a small clip-together stand, so it can be displayed on a wall, shelf, desk or sideboard.
Each map is framed without glass, allowing the depth, texture and natural wood grain to remain visible. Available with a natural or black frame.
Depths and elevations are shown in metres where included in the design.
You can add a short engraved message to the back of your map and a brass pin to mark a special place on the front for an additional charge.
To add this option, select “Map with engraving + brass pin” before adding the map to your cart, then enter your message and the Eircode or location details in the box provided.
If the place does not have an Eircode, you can describe the location instead.
Each Local Spots map is designed and made by Outcrop in our County Sligo studio.
We use geographic data to create the layered map design, then laser cut, stain, hand-sand, finish, frame and check each piece in our workshop before it is packed for delivery.
Made in small batches, each map carries the natural warmth of wood and the care of something made by hand.
Each Local Spots map is made from FSC-certified bamboo plywood, chosen for its strength, fine grain and natural warmth.
Our round frames are made from FSC-certified birch, sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests. We use water-based, non-toxic glues and stains to finish each piece by hand.
Your map is wrapped in protective tissue and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box. Our packaging is plastic-free, and each piece is designed to be kept, gifted and enjoyed for years.
Your map comes ready to hang, and also includes a small clip-together wooden stand for displaying it on a shelf, desk or sideboard.
To use the stand, pop out the two pieces, slot them together and rest your map securely on top.
For best results, display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight,
as this may gradually affect the blue colour or natural bamboo tone over time.
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
Each Local Spots map is made to order in our Sligo studio, rather than held in large quantities of stock. This helps us make carefully, reduce waste and manage our small workshop space.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for dispatch during our normal production flow.
Your map will be carefully wrapped and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box, ready to give as a gift. We do not include pricing inside the parcel, so it can be sent directly to the recipient.
If your order is a gift, you can leave us a note at checkout with any packing or delivery details.
If you need your map sooner, please contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what is possible.
