Spanish Point · Rinn na Spáinneach · Co. Clare, Ireland
A meaningful handmade gift for anyone with a connection to this wild and historic stretch of the west Clare coast.
Discover the beauty and history of Spanish Point with this beautifully handcrafted round wooden map. Sitting on the west Clare coast between the busy market town of Miltown Malbay to the north and the quiet village of Quilty to the south, Spanish Point takes its name from the Spanish Armada sailors who were shipwrecked and drowned on this stretch of coastline in the great storm of 1588 — the same storm that wrecked three galleons on Streedagh Strand in Sligo. Today it is one of Clare's most beloved coastal destinations — a wide, exposed beach of Atlantic surf backed by dunes and low headlands, with Mutton Island and Carricknawelwar Island sitting offshore in the shimmering water. Miltown Malbay, just up the road, is one of the great centres of Irish traditional music, home to the famous Willie Clancy Summer School that draws musicians from across the world every July.
This handcrafted 3D wooden map captures Spanish Point, Miltown Malbay, Quilty, Mutton Island and Carricknawelwar Island in layered detail — made by hand in our Sligo studio from sustainable materials.
Perfect for:
- Surfers and sea swimmers drawn to Spanish Point's wide, exposed Atlantic beach and consistent west Clare surf
- Traditional music lovers who know Miltown Malbay and the Willie Clancy Summer School as one of the great gatherings of Irish music
- History lovers fascinated by the Spanish Armada connection and the extraordinary story behind the place name
- Anyone with a connection to Spanish Point, whether you holiday there each summer, surf its waves, or simply love this beautiful corner of west Clare
Make it personal:
Add a brass pin to mark a favourite spot — the beach, Miltown Malbay, Mutton Island, a family home or a special place along the west Clare coast — with a short engraved message on the back.
Our Local Spots maps are round, framed wooden 3D maps, designed to capture meaningful Irish places in a simple, tactile format.
Each map measures approximately 220mm across and 42mm deep. It is ready to hang and also comes with a small clip-together stand, so it can be displayed on a wall, shelf, desk or sideboard.
Each map is framed without glass, allowing the depth, texture and natural wood grain to remain visible. Available with a natural or black frame.
Depths and elevations are shown in metres where included in the design.
You can add a short engraved message to the back of your map and a brass pin to mark a special place on the front for an additional charge.
To add this option, select “Map with engraving + brass pin” before adding the map to your cart, then enter your message and the Eircode or location details in the box provided.
If the place does not have an Eircode, you can describe the location instead.
Each Local Spots map is designed and made by Outcrop in our County Sligo studio.
We use geographic data to create the layered map design, then laser cut, stain, hand-sand, finish, frame and check each piece in our workshop before it is packed for delivery.
Made in small batches, each map carries the natural warmth of wood and the care of something made by hand.
Each Local Spots map is made from FSC-certified bamboo plywood, chosen for its strength, fine grain and natural warmth.
Our round frames are made from FSC-certified birch, sourced from sustainably managed Finnish forests. We use water-based, non-toxic glues and stains to finish each piece by hand.
Your map is wrapped in protective tissue and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box. Our packaging is plastic-free, and each piece is designed to be kept, gifted and enjoyed for years.
Your map comes ready to hang, and also includes a small clip-together wooden stand for displaying it on a shelf, desk or sideboard.
To use the stand, pop out the two pieces, slot them together and rest your map securely on top.
For best results, display indoors and avoid prolonged direct sunlight,
as this may gradually affect the blue colour or natural bamboo tone over time.
Dust gently with a soft dry cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft brush attachment.
Each Local Spots map is made to order in our Sligo studio, rather than held in large quantities of stock. This helps us make carefully, reduce waste and manage our small workshop space.
Please allow up to 2 weeks for dispatch during our normal production flow.
Your map will be carefully wrapped and presented in an unbleached, recycled cardboard box, ready to give as a gift. We do not include pricing inside the parcel, so it can be sent directly to the recipient.
If your order is a gift, you can leave us a note at checkout with any packing or delivery details.
If you need your map sooner, please contact us before ordering and we’ll let you know what is possible.
